Todd Young is a fifth generation Hoosier who grew up outside of Indianapolis. While growing up in Indiana, Todd delivered newspapers, mowed lawns and mopped floors at his family’s small business.
After he graduated from high school, Todd began his lifetime of service to our country when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. A year into his service, the Secretary of the Navy appointed Todd to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland where he graduated with honors and joined the U.S. Marine Corps.
As a Marine, Todd served on the southern border in Yuma, Arizona, leading fellow Marines as the nation fought against drug and human trafficking.
After a decade of serving in the Armed Forces, Todd was honorably discharged. He pursued graduate study at home and abroad, worked at The Heritage Foundation, and served as a legislative assistant in the U.S. Senate before returning home to Indiana to earn his law degree from Indiana University in 2005.
In 2009, after President Barack Obama outlined his liberal agenda – which included an insurance mandate and an energy agenda to displace coal workers from southern Indiana – Todd decided to run for Congress. He soundly defeated Democrat Congressman Baron Hill by 10 points.
While serving in the House, Todd introduced the Fairness for American Families Act, which would delay President Obama’s health insurance mandate. Despite a Democrat President, Todd was a highly effective, conservative Congressman, and was the primary sponsor or cosponsor of 38 bills that became law.
In 2016, Todd decided to run for U.S. Senate, where he ran against former Democratic Indiana Governor and U.S. Senator Evan Bayh. While Todd was outspent by his opponent by $3.2 million, his conservative, pro-Hoosier vision for Indiana propelled him to a 52% to 42% victory.
As Senator, Todd has sponsored or cosponsored 38 bills into law, which brings his total to 76 bills throughout his service in Congress. This list includes the Police Mental Health bill that was signed into law by President Trump. Additionally, Todd has always stood with law enforcement and has never supported legislation to reform qualified immunity or to defund the police.
Todd was also the lead cosponsor of the CHIPS and Science Act passed in 2022, which holds China accountable, while also creating, and preparing Hoosiers for 21st Century high-wage technology jobs.
In addition to legislative work, Todd was instrumental in identifying and recommending to President Trump a fellow Hoosier, Amy Coney Barrett, to the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and then to the United States Supreme Court for her lifetime appointment.
As President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris continue to ignore the humanitarian crisis on the southern border, Todd knows it is more important than ever to offer commonsense alternatives to their liberal agenda.
Between Todd’s conservative accomplishments, his work to hold China accountable, and his support of the pro-free enterprise agenda that has created Hoosier jobs, it’s no surprise that over 320 prominent Hoosier conservatives have already endorsed Todd. These supporters include former Vice President Mike Pence, every Indiana Republican statewide officeholder, every Indiana Republican Member of Congress, and over 90% of Republican County Chairs.
Todd and his family currently live near Indianapolis, and he comes home every weekend to meet with Hoosiers.
